What you’ll do at Staples


As the Operations Support Manager, you will contributes to the short and long term strategies of the Distribution Centre, by optimising processes through the adoption of continual improvement and LEAN ways of working. You will manage, guide and optimise the warehouse functions across all shifts through effective management of direct reports in order to achieve the required standards of cost, efficiency, quality and productivity in all areas. You will ensure the best possible service levels are achieved for Staples customers, with a strong emphasis on processes that ensure shipping on-time and in-full (OTIF) and controlling stock movements. Other responsibilities will include:


  • To manage, monitor, maintain and communicate Health & Safety requirements throughout the entire operation, leading by example in order to create and maintain a safe working environment 
  • To protect the inventory in the warehouse through the adoption of robust security measures and strict process compliance in relation to stock issue and stock movements 
  • Work with the site management team to ensure that all expenses are reviewed from time to time so as to ensure the best quality and price. In particular warehouse consumable
  • To manage all HR and people management activity, including recruitment and selection, investigations, disciplinary and grievance meetings, performance management and appraisals
  • Manage department and user productivity. Laying down plans to address any shortfalls and to drive continual improvement
  • To manage, monitor, review, report and attain agreed operational KPI’s and our internal “Perfect Order” metrics
  • Daily planning of staffing against expected volume forecasts. Adapting quickly to changes to as to ensure only the required resources are deployed
  • Daily planning of workflows, raising all issues that may prevent on-time, in-full shipping (OTIF) in a timely manner and escalating where appropriate
  • Additional duties that line Managers and Directors may request from time to time that that are deemed necessary and/or essential in the profitable and efficient running of Staples business
  • To achieve and maintain a high level of housekeeping throughout the warehouse adopting 5s methodology
  • Prioritisation and loading of goods to agreed schedules
  • To implement any procedures required ensuring that the warehouse achieves the agreed levels of service. Including managing priors and colleagues for which your results are dependent upon their outputs and actions


What you'll bring to Staples...

·         Professional qualification of C.I.L.T / Logistics Management or other industry specific qualification is essential

·         Minimum of 3 years Warehouse and Distribution experience and managing a large team

·         Proficient in WMS and ideally WCS and MS Office applications

·         Strong communication skills

·         Ability to balance between long range planning and also meeting immediate operational needs

·         Proven leadership & motivational skills

·         Experience of continual improvement and or LEAN ways of working

 ·          Working knowledge of Warehouse Management System

·          Health & Safety management

·          People Management, including reviews, goal setting & disciplinary procedures
